Megan
Melvin
Varsity Head Coach

Bi
o: Coac
h Megan Melvin is a native of Chillicothe, Ohio, and an alum of Paint Valley High School. During high school, she was a multi-sport athlete competing in volleyball, basketball, and track, earning multiple All-Ohio, All-District, All-Conference, and MVP honors in each sport. She was also a state high jump medalist.

Melvin earned a full-ride athletic scholarship to play Division I basketball at Morehead State University where she quickly became a team starter. She received honors as an All-American scholar-athlete while obtaining her bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a biology minor.

This season will be Coach Megan’s second year coaching for the Cincinnati Trailblazers. She is excited about the opportunity to be named as head coach and views the coaching role as a position of servant leadership, where she can empower players to be the best version of a Christian athlete possible. Coach Megan believes in hard work and doing all things heartily as to the Lord and not unto men. She believes each player has unique gifts and skills that can work together to build a dynamic team when they encourage and support one another. She holds her team to a higher standard of character and effort as there is always one more percent we can give. Her mission is to use the game of volleyball to help young women grow in their faith and character and challenge them to move their skills to the next level, all while glorifying the Lord.

When Megan is not coaching, she has a full-time job as a housewife and homeschool
momma to four of her six children. Her two oldest children are currently pursuing their undergraduate degrees. She is involved in her local church as much as time allows and seeks to live a life that honors her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Coach Megan’s Bible verse: Proverbs 3:5-8 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your body and refreshment to your bones.”

Jessica Stucky
Varsity Assistant

Bio: Coach Jessica Stucky, (or as she likes to be called, “Coach J”) is originally from northwest Ohio. From elementary school through high school, Jessica was a multi-sport athlete playing various sports including softball, soccer, volleyball and competing in the hurdles and 4x400 relay in track and field.

Jessica attended Taylor University Fort Wayne, where she, through hard work, determination, and eagerness, earned a spot on the TUFW volleyball team. She played on the team for three years, first as a defensive specialist, then soon earning the spot of Libero. As a player, Jessica was not the tallest or most talented one on the court, and this forced her to build a reputation through grit, hustle, and her enthusiastically vocal style of play. Coach Jessica has continued to play and learn more about volleyball for many years as a lifelong passion, including in rec leagues at Indiana University in Bloomington, and more recently in various sand volleyball leagues in the greater Cincinnati area.

As her three daughters began to pick up on volleyball passion themselves, Jessica began teaching and coaching volleyball to them and others at home, through recreational teams and programs, and this past year at Trailblazers.

As a coach, Jessica is most passionate about solid fundamentals and playing with heart and hustle. Playing with heart includes having fun while playing volleyball, communicating and having a positive, encouraging bond with your teammates, and giving of all of your effort to honor the Lord, yourself, and your team. Playing with hustle means physically and athletically working on being disciplined in your practice and play, challenging and pushing yourself mentally and physically to grow and improve, and not holding anything back anytime you’re on the court.

Coach J is grateful that herself and her family have the opportunity to be a part of the Trailblazers community of coaches, families, parents and players. She hopes to relate to Trailblazers community, through servant leadership also, with Galatians 5:22-23 in mind:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

Sarah Clippinger
Junior Varsity Head Coach
Bio:

Sarah has been coaching youth sports at all levels for over 25 years. Most recently, she has been found coaching the Junior Varsity Trailblazers and club volleyball at Cincy East.

Sarah was born and raised in Eaton, OH, and attended Eaton High School, where she was a 3-year Varsity athlete. After high school, she attended Miami University, where she received a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics.

She enjoys playing in sand leagues and pickup games in their backyard court. Sarah enjoys getting to see the development of young athletes and how sports can be used to help them set and achieve both long- and short-term goals. As a Christian, she loves to encourage young women in their faith and use their talents to bring honor and glory to Jesus. As a coach, she expects each girl to desire to improve individually and work hard at every opportunity we have to improve as a team, while showing respect to our opponents and officials.

When Sarah is not coaching, she and her husband Matt enjoy supporting their four daughters in each of their endeavors—which often include more volleyball! She also enjoys sweet tea, friends, and spending time with family.

Her favorite Bible verse is Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”

Chance Melvin
Junior Varsity Assistant

Bio: Coach Chance Melvin came to the Trailblazer’s volleyball program with an athletic background in baseball. Chance earned a full scholarship to the University of West Alabama where he twice earned All-American honors and was named the Gulf South Conference player of the year after his senior season. After college, Chance continued his baseball career, playing professionally for the Chillicothe Paints in the Frontier Leage. It was in Chillicothe, Ohio where Chance met his lovely wife, Megan Melvin.

Chance and Megan were married in 2001 and God blessed them with six wonderful children, five girls and one boy. It is because of his daughters and wife that Chance began watching volleyball and from that first match he became a student of the game. Chance believes volleyball is the ultimate team sport and knows there are many valuable life lessons available through sports and teamwork.

Chance enjoys watching and studying volleyball and is passionate about the spiritual, mental, and physical development of players. Chance knows the impact a coach can have on a player as he was blessed to play for some amazing coaches during his career, coaches he is still in contact with to this day. Chance works hard every day to remain centered in Christ and wants to honor God in everything he does. Chance believes in excellence in effort, because as the eighth most athletic person in the family he must work hard just to keep up during the Melvin backyard volleyball games!

Angela Evans
U14 Head Coach

Bio:
Angela is a Cincinnati native, born and raised on the west side of the city. She was raised Catholic and attended St Jude Elementary and then Mother of Mercy High School, an all-girls high school. There she played four years of competitive volleyball in the GGCL, serving as co-captain her senior year. Since Angela is only 5'2", she didn't initially pursue a collegiate volleyball career. She attended the University of Dayton and planned to tryout for the club level volleyball team, just for fun. While at tryouts, she was recruited to play for the Division 1 Varsity team and became a walk-on shortly after. While she didn't see much playing time, she was voted co-captain her sophomore year, which spoke to how others felt about her character, work ethic, and passion for the game. She never failed to work hard and pushed her teammates every day to be better. After her sophomore season and a hip flexor injury, she decided to no longer play on the varsity team and played as libero on a successful club team at UD for her next two years, until she received her bachelor's in communication management. She continued to play in indoor soccer leagues and even flag football leagues throughout college and up until she started having kids.

Several years later, after graduating, working, getting married, and having some babies, she picked volleyball back up by playing in rec sand leagues and coaching her young daughter's volleyball teams. She hopes to continue making a positive impact on female athletes and help them learn and love the game of volleyball. Angela experienced many different types of coaches over her years of playing, and it left her determined to be a positive coach for girls, someone that would build them up and encourage them, while also challenging them and allowing them to have fun in the process. She believes in helping young girls gain confidence through sports and is so grateful that Trailblazers offers a Christian based homeschool volleyball program. She is excited to be part of the coaching crew for Trailblazers and wants to see the program develop strong volleyball players for many years to come.
